The 'Uncle' series of books were written by J.P Martin. Uncle lives in a castle called Homeward.The view from Uncle's splendid house is marred by his arch critic and adversary's dingy fortress - Badfort.Led by Beaver Hateman, the Badfort crowd are a constant thorn in the side of Uncle and his followers.

The only time there is a temporary truce is at Christmas.

The books were published in a number of countries around the world, including the United States. The books are hard to find now but you can find a full list of all the various versions that were published here.

The books were illustrated by Quentin Blake OBE the first Children's Laureate.

"Uncle and his Detective' was read by Spike Milligan on the BBC1 series 'Jackanory' in 1971.You can find out all about it here.
